Eau brouillée

Possible causes

If you open your eyes under water and feel a burning sensation or itching of the skin, these may be possible causes:

  • Improper pH balance
  • Presence of chloramines (combined chlorine, strong chlorine odour)

Suggested solutions

  • Improper pH balance: Adjust pH to 7.2 - 7.8. The pH of the human eye is 7.5.
  • Presence of chloramines (combined chlorine): Do a Non-Chlorinated Shock Treatment, also known as Oxy, by using a 500 g pouch per 40,000 L of water or less, or 2 pouches of 500 g per 40,000 L of water or more.

Preventive maintenance

  • Improper pH balance: Maintain pH at 7.2 - 7.8.
  • Presence of chloramines (combined chlorine): Add one 500 g pouch of Non-Chlorinated Shock Treatment, also known as Oxy, per 40,000 L of water or less, or 2 pouches of 500 g per 40,000 L of water or more. This will prevent chlorine odour and eye irritation. The Non-Chlorinated Shock Treatment improves sanitizer efficiency and helps clarify water.

 * In order to maintain clear and sparkling water during the swimming season, make sure to have your pool water analyzed regularly by your specialized retailer to adjust and maintain the following parameters: total alkalinity, calcium hardness and stabilizer. Ideally, the week following the opening of your pool, in early June and late July.
